Jacques Brel and Edith Piaf are definetly the standards of the French music although they are oldies.

    Other popular artists would be:

    Charles Aznavour

    Charles Trenet

    Joe Dassin

    Hugues Aufray

    henry Salvador

    Salvotore Adamo

    Serge gainsbourg

    Claude François

    Serge Nougaro

    Gilbert bécaud

    Michel Sardou

    Michel Fugain

    Maxime Leforestier

    Michel Polnareff

    Laurent Voulzy

    Alain Souchon

    among others

my top list for French standards would be:

    - La vie en rose (Edith Piaf)

    - Comme d'habitude (Claude françois - My way in English)

    - Les feuilles mortes (Yves Montand)

    - Au Champs-Elysées (Joe Dassin)

    - Ne me quitte pas (Jacques Brel)

    - L'aige noir (Barbara)

    - La mer (Charles Trenet)

    - Rime (Claude Nougaro)

    - Et maintenant (Gilbert bécaud)

If you're looking for more recent music, I would suggest artists like

Marc Lavoine, Maurane, Julien clerc, Vanessa Paradis, Bejamin Biolay, Bénabar, Grégoire, Céline Dion, Jean-jacques Goldman, Renan Luce, etc.

    Hope this helps

Traditional... Not really but this is very popular as "classical" songs :

    Edith Piaff

    Marc Lavoine

    Claude François

    Brigitte Bardot

    Serge Gainsbourg

Others... the band KYO, I guess.

    Frère Jacques, frère Jacques,

    Dormez-vous? Dormez-vous?

Sonnez les matines! Sonnez les matines!

Din, dan, don. Din, dan, don.

lol does anyone know this song anymore m(='.'=)m

A literal translation of the French lyrics would be:

    Brother James, brother James,

Are you sleeping? Are you sleeping?

Sound the morning bells! Sound the morning bells!

Ding, dang, dong. Ding, dang, dong.
