TVA did a number of things. By building dams, it helped to control flooding. The dams also generate electricity which helped with what was known as "rural electrification" (getting electricity to rural areas of The South). As a bonus, the dams created lakes for recreation, like boating and swimming. The land around the lakes that belongs to TVA also created hiking and camping areas for the public.
