I find that one hasty revision and the careful organization of my time in the examination usually does the trick and involves the minimum of effort.

If you are facilitated by the tension of an examination you might say:

If you are debilitated by the tension of an examination you might say:

-When I am poorly prepared for a test or examination, I get upset and do less well than even my restricted knowledge will allow.

-The more important the test, the worse I do.

-I always seem to remember the answers when I leave the examination room.

Emotional responses

There are three main emotional responses to stressful situations:

Anxiety-this is a reasonable reaction to a frightening or dangerous situation

Anger and frustration-this reaction may impair the ability to cope

Apathy and helplessness-this listlessness is even more debilitating.

Attitude of mind will affect an individual’s reactions; with anxiety the emotional response may be much greater than the actual danger merits. This is called ‘neurotic anxiety’ and the individual may find it difficult to cope with stressful situations without help from other people.

Anger and frustration can be considered justifiable in some situations. These emotions often result in strong motivation so there may be occasions when a feeling of ‘righteous indignation’ acts as a spur to effective action.
