why group IVA has giant covalent structure?

Group IVA like carbon and silicon has giant structure or allotrope.

    The elements in group 4A, especiallly C and Si are at a mid range position regarding electronegativity, so they tend to share electrons instead of donating or accepting electrons, making for covalent bonding.

    They also have a tetrahedral geometry regarding bond angles outward in space which allows symetrical bonding at l09 degree tetrahedral angles, also promoting large molecular structures as in diamond.
