Is wild camping lawful in Ireland? And where can i find the law text?

The more important for me is the answer but i need too a link to a law text which explains the laws about wild camping in Ireland. Thanks.

Update:

In fact i now that camping on private properties is bad whithout permission, but my question is about camping on public properties mainly.

Thanks for the links, it looks like that i wanted, but i'm french and its a little hard for me to read juridic english...

So clearly, wild camping is tolerated but no lawful?

It's not legal but it is tolerated on publicly-owned property such as roadsides and national parks. Some parks require you to have a permit, although you can still camp wild, e.g. Wicklow National Park

If it's private property, it's a civil offence rather than a criminal offence, unless you do damage (farmers could argue that setting a fire is criminal damage in summer time, or entering a field where sheep are lambing as this can cause mass miscarriages by the ewes, that sort of thing) or cause fear by your presence (elderly landowners could claim this). Most landowners would accommodate you if you have the manners to ask. Personally, if I found someone camping on my land without permission, I'd set the dogs on them. If they asked permission, I'd give them the run of the place. make them cups of tea and all.

The law you want is the Occupiers Act 1995 and some provisions of the Housing Act 2000:

EDIT: That's right, tolerated but not legal - typically Irish.

The reason for this is so that people who create a mess and who don't adhere to the Leave No Trace rules can be removed from a campsite, while allowing 'good' campers to enjoy the wilderness.

Here are the informal rules for wild camping in Ireland:

Mountaineering Ireland also has some good information:

I advise getting Ordnance Survey maps for the places you are interested in visiting - you can buy these from most newsagent shops when you arrive in Ireland - the detail on them is excellent and the national parks are marked on them.
