There's little point in holding out for a bumper pay rise if your employer has seen its annual profits plunge by 50% or more.

There's little point in xxxx : xxxx

    hold out for: 堅持指望

    a bumper pay rise:

    its : 公司的

    plunge與by並不構成動詞成語, 用by是因為by的本意:「by + 幅度」.

There's little point in holding out for a bumper pay rise if your employer has seen its annual profits plunge by 50% or more.

There has little point in holding out for a bumper rise if your employer has seen that its annual profits plunge by 50% or more.

Sorry, 漏打了pay 在bumper 後面, 應是 a bumper pay rise.

He missed the bus by three minutes.
