Ethiopia had always had a close relationship with the great Civilizations of ancient times. Egypt,Phoenician traders and if we believe the story ancient Israel.

The disgraced son of Solomon of Solomon ,Menelik, fled to that country carrying with him the Ark of the Covenant. Still to this day the Ethiopian Orthodox Church proclaims that the Ark is still there.

As Ethiopia became Christian at a very early stage it was became a trade center between the East,West and Black Africa. Western traders felt it was a safe place for them to go. The great monuments of the Aksum Dynasty Kings were entirely financed by the income of trade. It would only be later when Westerners and Arab merchants ventured into the African inland that their culture eventually vanished.

Ethiopia has been a meeting place for many different civilizations and creeds but all through its history it has been able to keep its own identity.

    Hope this helps.
