IT IS AMAZING! In moderation. Short term effects include rapid heart-rate, increased blood pressure, redness of the eyes and blah blah blah. Being high is different for everyone but very similar. Some people report that it feels as if their senses are heightened, or that they are more in touch with their senses. This being the reason that music sounds so much better (and why its one of the biggest concert drugs) and food tastes better. But it all depends on you. Also a general sense of euphoria. You feel really relaxed and happy or giddy. This is why i dont buy all that marijuana user related violence crap. You feel way too relaxed and calm to get violent while stoned. :D
Also, another short term side effect is short-term memory loss. I dont mean this to sound so unbelievably horrible that it'll change your life. Lets just say: you grab ur keys to get ur backpack out of your car but decide you're thirsty so go grab a glass of water. Since your senses are increased ur easily distracted and once you finished ur glass of water you think to urself, 'what was i gonna do?' or 'why do i have my keys'? or 'why am i in the kitchen again? ' but it only happens for a little while and then wears off.
There are tons of different things to consider when smoking marijuana. It is harmful to your lungs just as cigarettes are, but its also debatable with some new research that has come out that it seems to actually increase the ability of the lungs to protect themselves. It still irritates them though. The jury is still out on all that. IF you can eat it, that is the healthiest and best way to do it. There are practically no ill affects of marijuana on the body if you eat it other than the increased heart-rate and blood pressure and stuff like that, that is common with marijuana anyways. and since you're not smoking it, you are not hurting your lungs at all.
and marijuana is addictive, but not like cigarettes and other drugs are. cigarretes and most other drugs are physically addictive. meaning that your body itself will experience withdrawl affects along with your mind. your body was used to having the drug in its system and with out it, it feel completely out of balance and very intolerable. marijuana, however, is only mentally or psychologically addictive. your body does not develop a need for it. you may develop a tolerance meaning you'd need more and more to achieve the same results if you are a heavy long time. but your body does not develop A NEED for it so u wont experience physical side effects other than maybe a headache. but mentally, you may crave it. crave the feeling of being high or wanting to relax, but you wont have an unbelievably overwhelming desire to get it into you so you can feel normal.
all in all, marijuana is very safe in my opinion if you are educated about it and not an idiot out to do stupid things while on it. for first timers, i would suggest getting a music album you really love or a playlist of music you really like and just lay back and listen to it after smoking for ur first time. maybe dim the lights and use the visualization software in windows media player or itunes to give you something pretty to see too. the more relaxing or trippier the music, the better. especially if its complex music that doesnt just have one repeating beat over and over like a lot of rap and hip hip(not saying its bad!). and be sure to have something sweet lying around for when the munchies kick it. brownies, cookies, ice cream, chocolate... these are things you usually cant go wrong with :P.
for indepth information check out wikipedia, its fairly reliable information about it on there.. and also check out erowid.org... very good site there.
if you choose to cook it and eat it, it may take up to 1-2 hours for it to take affect. from smoking it hits you in less than 1 minute and peaks within 5-7 minutes.
btw, the idiot up advocating so strongly against it, is just that... an idiot im sorry to say. or severely misinformed. i am not what some people would call a 'stoner'. i do use marijuana occasionally, but not everyday or even every week. i used to do it much much more a few years ago, but i got tired of so much of it one day and decided to stop. i smoked ridiculous amounts one day and the next stopped. with absolutely no negative side affects unlike people that quit cigarrets or alcohol.
those classes in school were sooo misinformed and rather than providing rational information about drugs, they try using conservative scare tactics to frighten children into obeying.
and also btw, i am a 2nd year medical student and i plan to focus on drug research for homeopathy (traditional home remedies and herbs and stuff like that). so i speak from first hand, personal experience with the drug and as an educated professional with extensive knowledge of the drug's physiological affects.
and sorry for the horrible grammar, been up late studying for next week and im half asleep :P
OH AND BTW AGAIN...to ezy98... marijuana does have more THC than cigarettes... because cigarettes do not have ANY THC WHATSOEVER. THC is the main cannabinoid found in marijuana. THC actually stands for delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol and is the main ingredient in marijuana that produces all the affects that marijuana does. but there are more cannabinoids in marijuana, however, trying to explain all the minute differences and idiosyncrasies of these chemicals would be far above your level of understanding ezy98, so i wont bother.
