I thought CA lottery mega millions is only throughout the state of California?

So on the website it says Winning Jackpot Ticket(s) sold in other states: New York (1)

What does that mean by New York?

Mega Millions is NOT just throughout the state of California. The following states all pour their money into the prize pool:

AR AZ CA CO CT DC DE GA IA ID IL IN KS KY MD MA ME MI MN MO MT NC NE ND NH NJ NM NY OH OK OR PA RI SC SD TN TX VT VA WA WI WV.

That's 42 states.
