A review in the New York Times from 1954 of the book A Churchill Reader: The Wit and Wisdom of Sir Winston Churchill listed several quotes from the book including the one above.

The book is of course a collection of his writings, so my question is where did this quote originally come from. Was it an article, column, speech, interview, etc and where and when was it published and under what title?

Thanks in advance.
