Populations of organisms do not experience a linear growth, they rather resemble a J shaped curve. The initial increase in the number of organisms is slow because the number or reproducing individuals is small. Soon, the rate of population growth increases because the total number of individuals that are able to reproduce has increased. It shows an exponential growth, which means that as the population gets larger it also grows at a faster rate.

    Hope it helps ;D
