how important is preventing ESD when building computers?

i want to start building pcs and i need to know what i should do to prevent damage.

P.S. esd stands for electro-magnetic dischage

    extremely important. it ruins the component that has been 'zapped'

    you will find that computer parts usually come in ESD proof wrapping, so they don't get effected during transportation
