How to get rid of Lactic Acid Build Up?

I have recently started training for a 5K and then half marathon. I love running but I notice I get really bad cramps in my ribs. I was told this is lactic acid build up. How do I prevent this from happening?

    you shouldnt drink water RIGHT BEFORE you are about to run.
