Weird, I hear white people getting criticized for tanning all the time. Maybe it just depends on where you are at. I defend skin bleaching depending on what they use. If they're just using a alpha hydroxy acid, that means they aren't really "bleaching" but just exfoliating the dead skin and returning the skin back to the way it looked before it was damaged by the sun. It would essentially be the opposite of tanning. But its not changing the color of the skin, just returning it to its original lighter color. Also what do you mean you would never tan your skin? Everyone's skin encounters sun at some point and everyone skin tans, even if its just a little. Its a natural thing. To be real honest, I don't think that black people who bleach their skin are trying to be "White". I think they just want their skin a bit lighter. White people who tan aren't trying to be any other race either. They just want to be tanned. I don't think it has anything to do with pride or self hating. I think its just cosmetic. Let me put it this way, if you put on red lipstick, does that mean you hate the color of your lips and hate yourself?? Does that mean you aren't proud of your natural lipcolor? Maybe, though not necessarily, but nobody is going to criticize you for it.
