Hello dear juju,
One should be wary of the ego/intellect trying to play mind games in a sense, with God - just be wary. If you believe in Islam in your heart, and you say the shahadah you are Muslim.. If you make the formal salaat you will be saying the shahadah anyway but it needs to come from your heart. You really have to determine if your heart and soul has been embraced by Islam or if it has only engaged your intellectual mind. The fact that you say 'profoundess' with regards to Al-Qur'an Al-Kareem suggests your heart has been engaged, insha'Allah, Allahu a'lam.
So what would stop you saying you are Muslim...or "converting"/reverting to your original state of fitrah/purity that you were born into? Ponder that. You know you only have to say the shahadah in front of Allah subhana wa ta'ala (God...glorious and exalted is He) really. There is no formal conversion as such, though many may choose to say the shahadah at the mosque. And it is a good idea at some stage to say it in front of other Muslims anyway because one should be happy to announce ones new found belief, and brothers and sisters in the faith should know anyway as we are a community and help one another insha'Allah.
Is it the duties? Regarding the duties, you can go at the pace that suits you insha'Allah as it will be a learning process or a learning curve anyway, as with anything in life.
If you are wanting to test the water to see if you can handle the duties...of course your nafs/ego is going to find the duties difficult somewhat, but that does not mean you should not convert /revert because of thinking you will find difficulty or having found difficulty from testing the water, so to speak.
Anything in life worth having requires effort. How much more brave are toddlers when you think about it...they don't hold back from taking that first step, that requires much effort and bravery, do they? The rewards are innumerable and everlasting insha'Allah with engaging your heart and soul in Islam.
Ask God to fully engage your heart and soul and to help you make the transition.
"And your Lord says: Call upon Me, I will answer you;..." [Al-Ghafir: 60]
Insha'Allah when you are ready you will not want to hold back.
May Allah subhana wa ta'ala help you and guide you towards His wondrous light [Al-Noor:35] ...insha'Allah ...ameen.
..a revert (i.e. convert) myself..
