Why can't we choose where our tax dollars go?

Wouldn't it be nice if you can choose where your tax dollars go? You log on to the US treasury website. Click on the things you want your money to go to. The money is then allocated to the departments that take care of what you want to put your money in. What are your opinions?

You cannot choose where it goes because that is the job of Congress and you are supposed to vote for the candidate which matches you wishes the closest. You tell them at the ballot box!!!

Governments are not set up to serve the ordinary locust hoards. They are set up to serve the land-owning, nowadays corporate elites and/or the military. If the locust hoards benefit in any way, it's incidental and temporary, not planned. If your votes or your choices actually made a difference in the deep inner workings, they'd be illegal.

    That's what elections are for.

Source(s): It's a Representative Democracy, you elect the people you think are more qualified than you to decide what's in the best national interest. If you think you are just as qualified, run for election yourself and get 50.1% of the people to agree with you.
