“Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it"?

George Santayana said, “Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” What do you think of this quote?

Update:

They try it once, it ends bad. They try it twice, it ends bad. Why would you try it again?

History teaches us so much.

It's one of the truest things ever said. There's nothing new under the sun. Mankind must learn from the past or we do face repeating the same mistakes.

Case in point - Americans naively voted in an unknown liberal named Jimmy Carter. He ruined the economy and made us unsafe in the world. Now Americans have done the same thing 35 years later. You all learned nothing.

So true , most American's ( particularly under 30 ) don't know a thing about their own history , except the leftist agitators version ( if that ) .. Americans have become the stupidest country in the world ( as far as their own history in particular ) . Recently a camera and mic went to Berkeley , and asked the students if they could name the vice President ( most couldn't ) . Then the students were asked if they could name Angelina Jolie's husband , they proudly beamed with the answer , it was soo pathetic . I'm sure it would be the same with the majority of campuses ........

Using another of Santayana's quotes, one could say that the 0bama administration has learned nothing from history. "Do not have evil doers for friends, do not have low people for friends; have virtuous people for friends, have friends the best of men."

As the man that a small majority of the American People elected to the presidency of the United States continues to surround himself with those that would do harm to our country.

I think George Santayana said it.

I think the dumbing down of America will eventually cause us to repeat some bad aspects of history. Accountability for ignorance is ultimately self destruction.

Liberals love repeating history in the name of social justice. No learning without paybacks, right? But when does it stop? And they do love leaving certain parts of history out (any oppression of whites in particular).

Left and right wings are always going to each others throats. I'm right winged but ever stop to think that maybe if we agreed on something we might actually get something done? And I am NOT saying the parties should unite but maybe just agree on more things.

Ironically the right wing is still trying to spin that quote against the left wing. I am sorry right wing why is it everytime you guys end up ruining a country liberals have to come in and fix it? Right now Socialists are reforming Greece after a right wing government ran its course. Denmark, Norway and Sweden all socialists, all doing pretty good economically.

Want another great socialist idea, the 8 hour work day. No something I don't hear very frequently, "Damn those socialists for giving us the 8 hour work day".

"Case in point - Americans naively voted in an unknown liberal named Jimmy Carter. He ruined the economy and made us unsafe in the world. Now Americans have done the same thing 35 years later. You all learned nothing."

Yes Jimmy Carter ruined the economy when the American economy starting falling 15 years before Jimmy Carter was elected. To top it off Jimmy Carter got the economy to reverse its cycle. Ronald Reagan that guy who raised taxes 6 times under his term. Sorry conservatives but the facts never match your rhetoric.

Also by conservative standards now, Ronald Reagan would be a liberal. The GOP's Ronald Reagan purity test, Ronald Reagan would have failed it.

A nation unable to perceive legitimate danger to their liberties is doomed to die.

    The epitome of socialism success.
