Arrive a little early for every class so that you do not miss any important announcements such as homework assignments or test dates.

    Take good notes.

Review your notes soon after class and note what you do not understand.

Ask the professor (by his or her preferred means of communication, e.g. office hours, phone, email, in class, etc.) to explain what you do not understand.

Do all the assigned reading and homework.

Do at least some of the unassigned questions in your text (sometimes they show up on tests).

Unless the professor has said that you do not need to know something for the test, memorize every significant fact presented in class, including structures of chemical compounds, diagrams of cells (meiosis/mitosis), biochemical pathways, meanings of foreign words, foreign language grammatical rules, dates and sequence of events in history, algorithms, rules for differentiation in calculus, etc.

If your grade slips below a B+ in any class, go talk to your professor about what you can do to improve your grades. Let the professor know you really want an A and want help getting that grade.

Continue to review material presented earlier in the semester until the final exam.

    Three things:

    1. Pick your classes wisely--don't get into anything that will over challenge you if you don't want to take a risk.

    2. Study.

    3. Give the professor what they want and ask for in assignments, not what you'd like to do!
