First, Houston is BIG... really BIG, so you will probably want to live close to where the job is. I've had commutes of 45 min each way, and that really wasn't all that unusual... but it can get old if you don't like driving. The Woodlands is an awesome suburb up north. (about an hour from downtown). The schools are big, but very very good. It is a master planned community. Spring is nearby, it is a real small town that kind of added on some nice (but not quite as nice as the Woodlands) suburbs. Down south is the Clear Lake area... Clear Lake, Webster, Seabrook, Khema. This is a very nice area, its on the water. NASA (or more properly what's left of NASA now that Obama killed the space shuttle) is there, so it is where the astronauts live. Sad to say with shuttle going away, you can probably get a good price on a house in the area. Once again the schools are very good.... rocket scientists want good schools for their kids. There is also Sugarland, and Katy. Katy is on the west side Sugarland is to the southwest.
