What do environmentalists achieve when stopping the US from drilling offshore?
They have no effect for China, Venezuela, and Korea drilling offshore only 50 miles away from what the EPA bans.

They stop us from saving 3-4 cents in 15-20 years! (The effect of lifting the offshore drilling moratorium was analyzed by the Energy Information Administration at the U.S. Dep. of Energy. The EIA found that access to the Pacific, Atlantic, and eastern Gulf of Mexico regions would increase domestic oil production by 1.6 percent between 2012 and 2030. The Natural Resources Defense Council has estimated the price of oil would only drop about 3–4 cents in 15 to twenty years.)
Verses the current disaster:
Louisiana fishing industry could take a $2.5B hit
Gulf shrimp industry could lose $500M Florida’s Gulf Coast could lose $3B in tourist dollars
Cleanup cost could exceed $3B, depending on duration of spill
Seems like a no-brainer to me

Decreasing America's dependency on foreign oils a good enough answer? We have the technology to implement affordable alternatives to gasoline and oil but at the moment, the powers that be do not want to forfeit their cash cow. I don't really favor a Road Warrior situation when the oil wells run dry.

The make the current oil spill possible, when a foreign company comes and drills right off our limit.

Ask the people of Louisiana who depend on fishing for their lively hood
It is a question of risk and benefit

they increase the risk of oil contamination in the world:
because the places we get our oil DO NOT have the strict environment safeguards the US does.
because it's far riskier to transport billions and billions of oil in rickety tankers across thousands of ocean miles.
