There's really nothing "sci-fi" about that novel or the movie derived from it.

Some people "might" consider it to be sci-fi because "V" features a dystopian setting that is common in such works but aside from that stretch of a parallel, there are no other sci-fi elements.

While V does employ a variety of tools and "gadgets," they're all fairly typical things that exist across all generes and are not exclusive or even evocative of the sci-fi genre.

It's definitely better qualified as dystopian fiction or "dys-fi."

    It's more spec-fi than sci-fi
