Isaiah 57:1-2, "The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness."

what you write would depend on if they or your friend was born again.

    Luke 4:18
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

    Matthew 5:4
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

    John 14:16
    And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

    John 14:18
I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

1 Thessalonians 4:17-18 (King James Version)
17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 is where we are told to comfort one another with and in hope about death. And there are a few other comforting sayings you could use too, which are not in the Bible though.

Life is but a stopping place,
a pause in what's to be,
A resting place along the road
    to sweet eternity.
    We all have different journeys,
    different paths along the way,
We all are meant to learn some things,
    but, never meant to stay...
    Our destination is a place
    far greater than we know.
    For some the journey's quicker
    for some the journey's slow.
And when the journey finally ends,
    we claim a great reward
    And find an everlasting peace,
    Together with our Lord.

You can sign your card, "May God speed healing to all your broken hearts."

2corinthians 5:6Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:

2 cor 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
