In your experiences and honest opinion, should the feds own health care and social security? Are the feds actually able to run a good business?

First, a quick history lesson: When Social Security came into existence in the 1930s and the age for drawing it was set at 65, the average life span in the U.S. was FIFTY SIX YEARS. In other words, the government was looking at Social Security as a way to make money for the government in the guise of providing for people.

Having said that, I don't think there's a single person in this country -- if they are honest -- who wants their retirement and "golden years" well-being riding on the whims of the CONgress. NO, the federal government cannot run a good business. There's nothing they do well except screw up. (Case in point: two houses, side by side, hit by flash flooding last year. FEMA gave the one with minimal damage and no water in the basement over $1,300; the one with everything ruined because of four feet of water in the basement got $204.)

Ask a disabled veteran how well the federal government runs his/her health care (I'm a disabled veteran, and I cannot get an appointment to see a specialist dealing with my disability because according to the VA I'm not "disabled enough"). Ask someone who has to spend $200 a month to buy supplemental health insurance how great Medicare is. Ask the poor/uninsured (yes, folks, we ALREADY HAVE A GOVERNMENT PROGRAM FOR THE UNINSURED) how well Medicaid works.

    No.

No. But the left thinks otherwise and so America will slowly, one step at a time, be high jacked by what these things want. It will take many years but the left will not be happy until the Government fully owns and runs the means of production in the U.S.

I can't believe you asked this and further that so many people here seem not to understand this.

Social Security is and always has been a government program. Bush's attempts to privatize it met with huge outcries of opposition all over this country until he was forced to give up. The people have spoken.

Health care has always been privatized (except for the VA) and it will continue to be privatized if the current bill passes. Health insurance will also continue to be privatized.

Do you think the feds have done a bad job with our military?

You put the Dems back in charge so that they can write policy to right the ship... If not the Dems then we need to start fresh with a new much more reliable government. Someone has to eliminate the corruption, correct social security, education and develop a solid national health care system.

well lets see...they are honestly thinking of not delivering mail on Saturdays due to lack of funds... however Fed ex and UPS are doing just dandy. I think that people should take responsibility for their OWN money and quit handing our time and hard work over to OTHER people to spend as they please. business should be left to business owners and keep the government OUT of our lives.

Who else would like to own it? AIG or Lehman Brothers? or some other equally corrupt corporation who could gouge every single nickel out of every single person in the country? Hey - give it to Enron!

The feds mess up everything they touch. I don't want them messing up my health or taxing me any more than they already do.
