Sousaphone
The Sousaphine is a form of bass tuba designed by J. P. Sousa or use in his marching bands. It is helical in shape and encircles the player, resting on the left shoulder and passing under the right arm with the large flaring bell pointing forward above the player's head. Sousaphones have three or four valves and are made in E♭ and B♭. They were first made in 1898; in the earliest models, the bell pointed upwards.
