    Hi there Karatekiddo,

I'm glad (and a little jealous (^_-) ) to hear that you'll be visiting Japan. I've lived and worked there for four years. Out of 17 countries that I've traveled to, Japan was by far my favorite one.

If you're planning to travel to Tokyo from Osaka by shinkansen, then you'll be boarding the Tokaido Shinkansen from the Shin-Osaka station. Here's a website which features timetable information for that line in a PDF document:

    http://english.jr-central.co.jp/info/timetable/ind...

Just scroll down below the map, and click on "Tokaido-Sanyo SHINKANSEN Timetable (Eastbound)." The times are listed in military time.

All the previous respondents are right about where the shinkansen stations are located in Tokyo – at Tokyo station and Shinagawa station. There's an excellent page on Wikipedia that shows which stations in Tokyo the Tokaido Shinkansen stops at:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T%C5%8Dkaid%C5%8D_Shi...

Scroll down the page until you reach the "Stations" table. You'll see that the Tōkaidō Main Line stops at the Tokyo "Station" and Shinagawa "Station" in the "City" of Tokyo.

Finally, here's a website that will help you search for shinkansen fares. All you have to do is choose which line you'll be taking (in your case, the Tokaido Shinkansen) from the drop-down list, choose which station you'll be departing from (Shin-Osaka), and which station you'll arrive at (Shinagawa or Tokyo):

The above site also briefly explains the difference between the Nozomi, Hikari, and Kodama trains.

I hope this information helps, and, have fun!

The trip from Tokyo to Kyoto is four hours long, give or take a few minutes. If you're landing at Narita, you'll have to get out of Narita first. You could go to Tokyo Station, but I've heard that station can be confusing, so if you would prefer you could take the Narita Express to Shinagawa first. From there you can get the shinkansen to Kyoto. There will be other stops on the way, but you shouldn't have to change trains. Unless you're going to be there around a major holiday or something, don't worry about booking the ticket online. Just find the JR ticket office and buy your ticket there before boarding the train.

The point of your question is quite amviguous.

There are only two "Tokaido Shinkasen's" stations in Tokyo.

One is Tokyo and the other one is Shinagawa. Both of them are located at the almost epicenter of Tokyo Metropolitan area.

There are more than 1 Shinkansen line in Japan. You need to be specific which line you take.

Tokaido Shinkansen stops at JR Tokyo and Shinagawa station.

There are multiple Shikansen Stations in Japan. One in Tokyo and one in Shinagawa. Make sure to be careful which one to choose
