i dont know why i was searching this but i found a site that looks like u can buy a gun online without a license.. isnt that scary?

It depends.

You CAN purchase a gun online without a license but.... in order to take possession of the gun you need to have the gun shipped to a FFL (Federal firearms license holder). To get the gun from the FFL, you have to provide your license (or other suitable government issued I.D.) and fill out form # 4473 before you can take possession.

There is an exception though. If the gun you are buying is a black powder or antique gun (as defined by federal law) you do NOT need to go through a FFL to acquire it.

You can buy a black powder gun without a license.

so in the end, it is no different that buying at a gun store.

it's just if you have a very specific want, or see a very good gun, but that gun is in Florida and you are in North Dakota, you can have it sent from the first gunshop to North Dakota gunshop.

You can buy a gun online. They will not ship direct to you though. That kind of thing was outlawed in 1968.

Any guns purchased online must ship to a licensed dealer. That dealer will complete the transfer under the laws of your state.

For the most part, the previous posters are correct, BUT...

The government chartered organization CMP has surplus military rifles (from WWII and older) available that can be shipped directly to your home without a special license. There is paperwork involved of course, but not a firearms license.

Also, it depends on your definition of "gun." Black-powder firearms like muzzleloaders are not classified as "firearms" and in most states have no restrictions.

There are also some legitimately functional firearms that were made prior to 1892 (or somewhere thereabouts, the exact year escapes me) that are also considered "antiques" and require no license, even though they work fine.

Uh, life is tough. Its even tougher if you're stupid. What's scary are folks who buy into the "gunshow loop-hole" and the other anti gun garbage out there. Rather than asking us mooks, who will abuse you to no end, call the site and ask them if you can buy the gun with no papers. Only a few states require a license to buy a gun, but all interstate traffic in arms has to go from a licensed dealer to another licensed dealer, and you'll have to fill out BATFE Form 4473. If you are not yet 18, the point is academic. You can't buy a long gun. Under 21--no handguns.

No. Most states do not require licenses. They do have to be transferred through an FFL dealer. You can buy firearms in some of the more popular alleys. That should scare you.
