For most average HK people, the biggest expense is housing. Rent for a small HOUSE in Hong Kong in remote areas could be as little as HK$5,000 or over HK$50,000 for a bigger one in the prime locations. Most people live in condos/apartments, one that is 800 sq ft net in a good neighborhood can cost HK$10,000- 15,000. You can find smaller ones for much less.

For a single working person, I would say total monthly living expenses including utilities and basic clothing, excluding rent, social events, entertainment, should be around $4-5,000, a family of 3 should not cost you more than 10K. Monthly expenses for a housewife would cost much less because she does not have to pay for daily commute, eating at restaurants and updating work clothes.

HK$25000 is just a small amount. rental in HK is high. food cost is ok....depends on what u eat daily. average rental in the city = at least HK$10000 or up for a small 1 or 2 bedrooms apartment. some even only studio flat.

Hmmm, that may no longer a bad earnings for Hong Kong....yet no longer unavoidably an excellent one. the biggest cost is housing. you will stay in a smaller place. yet you preserve funds on almost each and everything else.
