What does the phrase "blood in the water" mean?

I heard it near the ending of the Daredevil film. Daredevil defeats Kingpin and says "Go ahead, tell the guys at Ryker's all about how you were beat by a blind man. It'll be like blood in the water." Any ideas? Kudos to those who reply generously. If you only come on here to give me a ridiculous...

Its like if you were in the ocean and you were bleeding. The blood would attract sharks and they would then proceed to eat you alive.

The "Blood in the Water" match (in Hungarian Melbourne-i vérfürdő, "Blood Bath" of Melbourne) was a water polo match between Hungary and the USSR at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, the most famous match in water polo history. Blood in the water does mean bleeding in a water that would attract predators.
But it also has another meaning.

For example.
Say someone was to disrespect you or cross a line like they spat in your eye.
If you do nothing about it, not stand up for yourself you have shown great weakness/
It does not matter if you win or lose what matters is that you stand up for yourself and do something about it.

In a situation like this the weakness shown will attract predators like blood attracting sharks in an ocean. Meaning that there is now blood in the water.
This means that the person WILL become a target and WILL be a victim because their weakness have attracted predators.

So there person is left to deal with the predators or get out of the water.

In regards to the Daredevil film.
What is meant is that Kingpin would move from being a threat to a target. Especially if other prisoners sense weakness Kingpin would be nothing but prey.
