I don't think sumo wrestling (wrestling itself could be considered a form of martial arts) is huge outside of Japan in Asia. The type of martial arts that are popular in Asia varies with the country, eg Koreans like Tae Kwan Do, Thais like Muay Thai, Chinese like Shaolin and Kung Fu, etc.

Sumo is a martial art, and it's very popular in Japan, the country of Sumo's origin.

Kevin and Warrior are both right. Sumo is definitely a martial art and it is most popular in Japan.

Depends on where in Asia you're talking about. Sumo is HUGE in Japan. It pretty much is the national sport of Japan. I don't think its really popular in any other parts of Asia. Though Martial Arts seems to dominate other parts of Asia, as well as Japan. MMA is huge in Japan as well.
