Its hard to say because we don't have all the necessary information to make that call. The investigations that have been conducted have many holes in them and aren't very conclusive. Diana was the "People's Princess" and her people deserve to know what happened that night. If the royals were some how connected to her murder they need to be shown for what they really are, and if it was an accident, they deserve to be cleared.

This was the latest bit of news that I could find from 2006 .....

Owner Wants Car Princess Diana Died In Back ... So He Can Sell It as Souvenir

The owner of the car in which Diana, Princess of Wales, died is demanding it is returned to him — so he can sell it as a souvenir. Jean-Francois Musa said he believes he can get more than $1.9 million for the wrecked Mercedes. Musa owns the Etoile Limousine company which rented the car to Diana and Dodi Fayed in August 1997.

After their deaths in an apparent accident, the car was shipped to Britain and is believed to be in a garage in southeast London.

U.K. and French authorities have been refusing to return the wreckage to Musa, prompting him to launch legal action. He claims he has been told he waited too long to ask for it back — when he insists he was simply being patient in order to help investigators carry out their inquiry into the crash. Musa said he has been offered around $36,000 by insurers in France to write-off the vehicle but said he does not want to see somebody else make a fortune from it. "When the crash happened I didn't even think what I could do with the car," he said.

Diana's wrecked car was held for investigation and study for quite a long time. The actual owner of the car, as another member has explained fully, was not Diana nor did it belong to the Fayeds.

The car is the topic of an ongoing law suit because the owner wants it back.

Shortly before the Duke of Windsor's death, Prince Charles visited the Duke and the Duchess of Windsor at their Paris home. Later it was revealed that during the visit, he told the Duchess that there were several things in the possession of the Duke & Duchess...including some of her jewelry....which the Royal Family was interested in having, and that they would be willing to pay handsomely for them.

To avoid the possibility of the car ever being displayed or sold for souvenirs, it is my opinion that, whatever the cost involved, the Royal family will pay for the car to gain ownership of it. The idea that the car should ever be displayed or sold for souvenirs is horrifying, but completely possible if the car is ever released from the "evidence" section.

Rightly, the Royal Family would pay enormous amounts of money to prevent that from ever happening.
