Probably Ian, Joy Division you could say probably helped create Indie and they were also one of the first Post-Punk bands. His lyrics have a different meaning for every person so you can draw your own conclusions from them and most of his songs have no real meaning apart from what the listener makes of it (Love Will Tear Us Apart as one of the few that we know the meaning of). He also had a tragic life in his last few years, with the skitsophrenia and the two lovers and his daughter etc. and its sad because they could of went on to become an even greater band.

    Ian Curtis

Robert Smith in second, Morrissey in third.

But my mom would say Robert Smith, then Morrissey, then Ian Curtis.
