RZA vs. DJ Premier, the better producer?

I'll try to give a mix of the better known songs, and some more underground stuff to get a good comparison of these guys.

DJ Premier for me, varies between just real hip-hop beats, and some of these more epic beats with the orchestra and such.

RZA is a bit more dynamic to me. He has countless different sounds. I can't even describe his style except that it doesn't sound like anyone else.

RZAs definitely more versatile in his production style but Primo is more consistent and has more good beats. I tend to judge a producer by the quality of an album that they have put out or produced a majority of the beats for. In terms of each of them making major contributions to albums, I would have to say that the handful of the given albums RZA has engineered have been better than the ones Primo has done.

In terms of production as a package:

OBCL, Enter The Wu, Liquid Swords, (Most of Ironman and some of TICAL) > Any Gangstar album (even though a few of the songs on those WU albums were done by the Wu elements)

Outside of their respective hip hop groups, I would have to say that Primo has done a lot more in terms of tending to come through with one or two beats on an album that are the best or making a significant (or slight) production contributions to more critically acclaimed albums (Funky Technician, Illmatic, Ready to Die, Livin' Proof and so on) than RZA has. I personally like RZA more but it's too hard to say who's better because what they have accomplished and chosen to strive for as producers is different and they have both had success choosing those different paths.

Tough call, but I'm going with the RZA. Without the RZA on the list I would probably would have gone with Premier. BQ: Sell. Wu-Tang Forever is solid, but Enter the Wu-Tang is the superior album.

they are both 5/5 producers imo.

im going to give a slight edge to RZA as better producer.

but DJ Premier has a higher position on the GOAT list.

in the 90s both were the best along with maybe pete rock, and havoc

rza has slot more synths and little cool sounds

    Youtube thumbnail

dj premier is very drum and bass heavy, and hes a sample master

    Youtube thumbnail

though rza uses his share of samples

    Youtube thumbnail

dj premier seems a little less dark, he just gets very raw drums

    Youtube thumbnail

rza is always kinda dark with his beats but he can get silly

    Youtube thumbnail

dj premier almost gets happy with his beats sometimes

    Youtube thumbnail

premo is always good but he can make boring beats

    Youtube thumbnail

rza can make weaker tracks to even if they are way better than most producers can do

in the end both are great, but produce differently

    i cant decide whos better
