This film was adapted from a true story. The setting was the war-torn Northern Ireland in 1970's when it was exchanging fires with the United Kingdom. The main character, Gerry, was a thief being at a loose end and rebellious towards his family. After he offended (冒犯) and agitated the Irish Republican Army, his father was forced to send him to Britain. Due to his playful attitude, Gerry got entangled in a well-known explosion case at that time. His frivolous manner, coupled with Ireland's background, made everything seem to be against him.
The police's devious investigation and interrogation approach (盤問手法) extorted the protagonist's confessions to the trumped-up charges. Even though Gerry had been sentenced to jail, his fond father was still on his side and never left him alone (or never abandoned him). Later, when the lawyer discovered that this was a miscarriage of justice, his father was already close to the end of his life. The only thing that made Gerry sum up his courage and file (= verb; 提出申請) for a case review was for his deceased father. He could not reconcile himself to (不甘心於) dishonouring his father's reputation.

Translative programme isn't the best way to learn languages or even you just want to get job done quickly beacuse verbatim(word by word) translation never accurately translate the meaning, only humen can do it base on freely rendering.)
