To be honest with you, you don't need a college degree to run a business. If you look at one of the most successful people in business today, they all started with nothing and some probably with even no high school degree. Operating your business first starts with you, you need to have passion for what ever it is that you are selling. Majority of the stuff that you learn in business degree programs, you don't necessarily apply everything when you start running your business. When you are running your own business, everyday is different and you don't know what you are going to face with. You can go to top notch schools in the world and decorate your wall with all sorts of business degrees; none of them is going to mean anything when you start operating your store. You need to have determination and passion to survive. It will obviously help if you take courses in business management, marketing, and finance; having the knowledge of putting together a business plan and marketing plan will give you a heads up. However, everything starts with you - you need to have the personality and set of skills that are unique to you to be better at what you do. Running a business is a skill that you develop overtime. There are lot of smart people who have MBA's and they work well in a corporate setting, however, they won't do well if they were to operate their own business.
