First and foremost: try pressing "F5" or hitting the "Refresh" icon. More often than

not, that will actually resolve the problem. If not, get ready for a really long answer:

Because many YouTubers are asking about "blank" or "black"

    screens/players, I recently took 2 hours googling/researching

and reading dozens of help forums & discussion threads. The

best that I was able to come up with is that there's no perfect

solution out there. However, there was an interesting factor in

nearly everything I came across: "FIREFOX".

A few people seemed to discover their own unique solution to

this problem, but no one else in those forums could duplicate

the same result. Also, every one of those supposed solutions

was terribly complicated (written in such convoluted bafflegab

    "techno-computerese") that I wouldn't dare recommend those

    potential fixes to anybody.

However, I also did come across 5 somewhat easier possible

    solutions, so check these out:

    1) If you are using a Mac with Firefox, signing out of YouTube

supposedly restores everything. Why? I don't know.

    2) One person found success by simply clicking the following:

go to → Tools → Quick Preferences → Edit Site Preferences

→ Network tab → Browser Identification → Identify as Firefox.

    3) Three other people said all they needed to do was delete a

    secondary Flash player called "Gnash".

    4) If you've got the Firefox add-on "Adblock Plus", that is also

    wreaking havoc with Youtube.

    5) The last thing is for you to verify if your internet connection

is good/strong, because several people said that they always

saw something like "1 item remaining", "Loading" or "Waiting

for www.youtube.com" in the corner of their screen.

If you want to follow in my footsteps and see everything that I

was reading, type any of the following in Google's search box:

    ∙ youtube "blank screen"

    ∙ youtube "blank player"

    ∙ youtube "blank box"

    ∙ youtube "black screen"

    ∙ youtube "black player"

    ∙ youtube "black box"

If none of the above is your answer, let me suggest what I tell

so many other folks when YouTube gets slow, stuck or weird:

Empty your cache of its "Cookies", "History" and "Temporary

Internet Files". My "CHTIF" solution has resolved hundreds of

YouTubers' problems. Just do the following, shutdown, reboot:

    Mozilla Firefox 3:

→ Tools → Clear Private Data

    [x] Browsing History

    [x] Download History

[x] Saved Form and Search History

    [x] Cache

    [x] Cookies

    → Clear Private Data Now

    Mozilla Firefox 3.5/3.6:

→ Tools → Clear Recent History

Time range to clear: → Everything

    ▼ Details

    [x] Browsing & Download History

[x] Saved Form and Search History

    [x] Cookies

    [x] Cache

    → Clear Now

    Apple Safari 3:

    → Edit → Preferences

→ Security (tab) → Show Cookies

    → Remove All → Done

    after that:

    → Safari → Empty Cache → Empty

    after that:

    → History → Clear History

    Apple Safari 4:

    → Safari → Reset Safari

    [x] Clear history

    [x] Empty the cache

    [x] Clear the downloads window

    [x] Remove all cookies

    → Reset

The only other idea I can think of is that you have a corrupted

flash player. The most recent versions of Flash are frustrating

lots of YouTubers. Updates are typically good for only 1 thing:

software conflicts. If you're using 1 of the 11 different versions

of Flash 10 (yes there are 11), you may want to consider this

Asker's feedback comment to another "Best Answer" of mine:

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=200811...

If that appears interesting to you, this is actually the right link:

    http://www.oldapps.com/flash_player.php?old_flash_...

If you are able to determine the "cause" and "cure" of this big

problem, could you please click my avatar, and let me know?

P.S.: three "Askers" who chose me as Best Answer wrote to

me afterwards saying that things seemed alright the next day

and that they didn't do anything at all. But I suspect that they

either followed my advice somewhat or possibly tweaked with

a few things. Also keep in mind that most "Torrents", "Instant

Messengers", and every stupid "Video Accelerator" under the

    sun also conflict with YouTube.

    Youtube related solution on Mac

Reinstalling Flash (make sure you have the latest version) is really the way to go. I had a similar problem on my Mac, and that fixed it in no time.

Also, make sure your system and applications are up to date (run Software Update).

I think Youtube just don't work on Mac OSX. I had a Mac and Youtube did work on it. Weird. (But it was a different Mac)
