When Israel follows International Law, when it abides by the UN Security Council Resolutions (like other countries are forced too); when it abides by its commitments to the IV Geneva Convention and the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The the conflict will stop. It could have stopped 40 years ago!
To answer a previous poster, the Palestinians agreed to the "Road Map" and the accords signed at Taba, Egypt. It was Israel that pulled out. I find it incredulous when people accuse Palestinians when one simple test can be used, take a map of Palestine and show me where the Israelis agreed to ON PAPER that THIS is the border. Israel is breaking the law, not the Palestinians when it comes to land. Palestinians are not occupying (illegally remember) ISRAELI land. REPEATEDLY the Arab world has offered Israel full peace (and that includes Hezbollah and Hamas) and all Israel had to do was OBEY INTERNATIONAL LAW. That's it, no concessions, nothing, just obey International Law, like Iraq was FORCED to do when it invaded Kuwait.
When a bully beats his wife, do we accept the excuse "you made me do it"?
Why do people insist that the land "belongs" to Israel? Palestinians are genetic Hebrews, they are the descendants of Abram, Isaac, and Jacob (assuming there were such people) so according to Zionists OWN logic, the land MUST belong to them too. That's IF you believe that people can take anothers land because a supernatural being said it okay.
@bon, the Palestinians delegation agreed to the Israeli proposal, but the Israelis REFUSED to put it in writing as a guarantee, they also REFUSED to accept any division or power sharing of Jerusalem and REFUSED to a timetable of powersharing. Would you care to explain why the Israelis walked away from Taba, and the "Road Map"? I've used this analogy repeatedly because it is so apt. If somebody steals $100 from you and agrees to give you back $93, they are STILL stealing from you.
And if the Israelis were so FOR UNGA 181 (which was a proposal, you know, something you NEGOTIATE) why did they condone the assassination of the mediator?(Folke Bernadotte) A man who prepared a proposal acceptable to both the US and UK (remember the USA WITHDREW their support of UNGA 181 after hearing about such atrocities as Deir Yassin and Acre) and the Palestinians took it seriously enough to agree to a ceasefire.--AMAZING that Zionists, who LOVE to bring up UNGA181 conveniently forget those little tidbits.
