Ubuntu - webcam isn't at /dev/video0, programs try to access it there to no avail yet firefox can access it?

dmesg output when I take webcam out and put it back in:

Problem:
Certain programs try? to access my webcam at /dev/video0, I think, but apparently it isn't there at all (according to that dmesg output)
It would explain why I get the error message: Could not connect to video device (/dev/video0)


Is there any way I can redirect /dev/video0 to point at wherever my webcam is? Or force my webcam to be assigned to /dev/video0 ?
