That's a really broad question, but I'll do my best.
As far as i can remember (im only in my teens) I have flown on 747s only with Lufthansa.
When you board, it will most likely be through a double jet way due to the # of passengers. Once you are on board, you will find the plane to pretty dang wide. It seats 10 abreast with 2 aisles! There will be at least 10 flight attendants, again because of the # of passengers.
The overhead bins are going to be somewhat smaller than those on the 777, but they are big enough. Your seat will probably be narrower too, though you might find a little more than usual legroom. Remember, the 747-400 was widely deployed in the 1990s.
As for entertainment, you most likely will not have PTVs in economy. Most airlines do not fit them to their 747-400s. Singapore Airlines, Air France, Air India, and British Airways are some exceptions to this rule. You can check here:
The noise of the engines is going to be louder than those of most modern long haul aircraft. (Airbus A380, A340, A330, Boeing 777) The 747-400 is somewhat dated.
As for the rest of the interior, you can expect a VERY slight degree of shabbiness. Drink plenty of fluids! (preferably water) The 747-400 cabin can get VERY dry during cruise. As for the bathrooms, they are in pods of four, doors facing inward towards each other, which is very cozy.
All in all, flying on a 747-400 is cool because most of the time, you are in the largest aircraft in the airport, boring, because there are usually no PTVs, and comfortable because of the spacious interior.
My 747-400 experiences with Lufthansa over the past 6 years.
