When Americans talk about "victory in Afghanistan" what do they mean?

Do they mean after all the terrorists are killed? Then you'd have to define what terrorist is. Is that all the people who are brown and want America to leave? If so, is America's real plan to kill everyone? Or to break their will to force America ou so it can stay? Obviously the "terrorists" will never be defeated so long as America remains in Afghanistan, so what is victory?

When we don't worry about our permanent bases there being attacked anymore is my best guess. We won't leave unless the government runs out of money to pay the soldiers, or in other words until the dollar crashes.

  • By the word "victory" they mean a delaying action to continue appropriating more money to throw away into an unending useless conflict for another year. There will be no victory, just a struggle that will never end and is unwin-able.

If the same arguments for "victory" are continued to be believed, the Afghan conflict will go on for a hundred years. Propping up an inept and corrupt puppet government is not a formula for success.

In this case 'victory' means following the example of everyone since Alexander the Great and eventually bugger off with tail between their legs, claiming the world is a better place by reason of their action and drawing attention to the lives they've saved by withdrawal..

"Victory" is when the war can be maintained and forgotten by the people. Obama won, 'victory' in Iraq because he managed to increase the overall number of Americans there, mostly private contractors, and kill the anti war movement.

when they mean victory they mean "winning the war" but being as its not a real war and it has been proven to be unwinnable (and unloosable) simply because the longer they stay the more pissed off everyone gets and the more they fight. so i think its basically "winning" is when they kill everyone who shots at them when they're done invading the country

Victory is a stable, self-ruled Afghanistan that is prosperous enough for people to want to live there and protect what they have from those that want to destroy it, and is no longer a safe haven for criminals and the enemies of political and economic freedom.

They don't know. It's just a phrase used to rally the dimwits who support the war.

The American definition of a terrorist would be anyone who opposes their imperialistic foreign policy.

Victory is securing the current government and allowing them the ability to defend themselves from a hostile takeover. That is very achievable with time and training.
