Do you mean "Fellini", "De Sica", "Antonioni", "Risi", "Comencini"? I am sorry to tell you, but they are all dead!
Do you wonder why there are no other great movies directors?
Well, there are some interesting directors, but the real problem with Italian cinema is that it has too little audience. Half of the movies seen in Italian theaters come from abroad and are dubbed in Italian; and very few people abroad want to see Italian movies, even when they are very good.
Every time the Italian state television produces a costly TV movie, all the actors must speak in English, even if they are all Italian, and Italy is the main market for that movie. Then themselves dub their own character in Italian. In this way the movie is better accepted abroad.
However the most famous Italian (artistic) movie directors in activity are: Gianni Amelio, Roberto Benigni, Francesca Archibugi, Nanni Moretti, Ermanno Olmi, Marco Bellocchio, Gabriele Salvatores, Marco Tullio Giordana, Gabriele Muccino, Giuseppe Tornatore, Matteo Garrone, Paolo Sorrentino, Liliana Cavani. In addition, there are directors of B-movies, that do not deserve a mention, even if they gather a lot of audience at Christmas time.
