Republicans Privately Worry Obama May Be Laying Trap With Televised Health Care Summit?

WASHINGTON -- Even as Republicans publicly welcome President Barack Obama's call for a bipartisan summit on health care reform, some privately worry that he might be laying a trap to portray their ideas as flimsy.

If so, a shaky showing by Republican leaders could possibly embolden congressional Democrats to make a final, aggressive push to overhaul the U.S. health care system, with or without any Republican votes.

He has shown that exposing the Republican agenda with live televised discussion does not lend them cover for their hidden agenda. They were shaking in their boots over the last exchange they had. Obama was quite cheerful and happy about the results. Perhaps many others were enlightened as well by the exchange.

Obama is calling the Republicans' bluff. He knows they don't want health care reform and will not vote for any health care bill presented to them. The Republicans have been complaining that Obama has ignored them, now they can't say it.

Having a summit to discuss both sides is not setting a trap. It's reaching out to the other side. The republicans will only hurt themselves if they stick to their agenda.

I hope Obama makes the American people see who the Republicans are really about.
