it is not as steady as one fixed on tripod. with a hand-held you get jitter, so the jitter - while subtle - sends you a signal of nervousness. moreover you get all sorts of angles you can't with a fixed camera, so the hand-held mimics your head's position and reflects more accurately the way you would see.

Because it gives a more accurate first person perspective ....... a sense of actually being there, whereas a slow, panning shot might paint a nice picture but doesnt give the immediacy of actually being there.

Tell your English teacher (if shes female and under 40) that dave s said hi ;)

The finished film footage appears as if you are seeing it through your own eyes, as opposed to footage shot from a distance with a static camera on a tripod. It appears as if the camera has replaced your eyes.

I think so! It makes it more realistic, more gritty. You feel like you're there. It's as if you are seeing what's happening through someone else's eyes. It influences the audience's emotions more than if it were just with a steady shot.

It gives perspective. It gives you a look thru their eyes, not from a high quality movie camera that filters a lot of stuff out. its a raw image.

the way its filmed...like the person on the beach is actually filming it not a cameraman...makes it more real
