title of a short story about a man who gets on a train or bus and overhears two men talking about a murder?

he listens and gets cought up in the story, then the two men leave the train and he never hears the end of the story, which is how the police caught the murderer.

    when alfred hitchcock told this story i think he called it 'criss cross"
