From Webster's Seventh New Collegiate Dictionary:

"Capitalism - an economic system characterized by private or corporation ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision rather than by State control, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly in a free market.

"Socialism - any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods."

The phrase "redistribution of wealth" is used by socialist types to justify confiscation of privately held interests in order to "redistribute" them to others (usually their political cronies).

The bank and auto company bailouts are indicative of a move toward socialism, as are social progams such as Social Security, Welfare, Medicare and Medicaid - among others.
