The other people are stupid. Jealousy is a very human emotion, everyone experiences it at some point in their life.
There's being jealous and then there's acting on jealousy.
I would see that people telling you you're a mean person if you were trying to ruin her relationship but you're not.
Maintain that opinion. I think there are a lot of weak people who decide they're jealous and try to mess up those they are jealous of--which is why you are getting the responses you are. Many people are incapable of preventing themselves from acting on jealousy. Simple and shallow people lack the integrity to say "Yeah I'm jealous but no I'm not going to mess things up." That is why you have these negative responses, because they think that everyone else thinks like them.
Anyway. You must realize that because someone has a boyfriend and you do not, it does not mean anything is wrong with you. There are a lot of smart, attractive, and interesting people out there who go for a long time without having a boyfriend or dating late.
For example, my best friend in my opinion is way prettier than me. She's a tall, skinny, leggy blond girl from Finland (she looks like a model), but she's 27 now and has only had one boyfriend.
On the other hand I'm just a simple short chick, nothing to me, but I'm the kind of girl that always has a boyfriend.
I think in contrast between my best friend and I, it's just that I find myself in situations where I encounter guys more often where as she keeps to herself that's all, and the more experienced you get in the dating world then the easier it is to find relationships.
Meaning that my Best friend is going to have a harder time dating guys than I simply because of lack of experience. It doesn't mean she's uglier or less of a person. Despite her lack of experience I think she's a stronger person when it comes to relationships than I.
So in short you are associating your lack of boyfriend with status so needlessly. Relax and don't care as much about finding a relationship and it actually attracts more attention, people view this as confidence.
I think also, people who start dating later usually have a more level head on their shoulders. (after looking at the difference between my best friend and I)
They can separate rational and emotional thinking, which makes for a stronger relationship.
So with that said, you're not necessarily in a losing position. You're still young.
