# How many flowers were there in all?

Harry and Jack raised roses and petunias in their garden. If 15 percent of the flowers were roses and there were 120 roses, how many flowrs were there in all?

This is what I did, but it seems to be wrong:

15x120 = 1800

1800(100) = 180,000

It seems unlikely that there are 180,000 flowers in the garden. Please show your work, and if you can, please explain what I did wrong.

100/15=6.666666667

therefore there are 6.666666667*(120 roses) in total

6.666666667*120=800 roses

as for what you did:

you multiplied the %15 by the number of roses in a %15 (120). then you multiplied it by a 100 witch is unfortunately gives you a wrong answer

if 15% of the roses equals to 120 roses,

15% = 120

you'll need to find 100%

So,

15% = 120

5% = 40 (you divide the numbers above with 3)

100% = 800 (multiply the numbers above this (5% = 40) by 20)

Let x be the number of flowers.

Then 15% of x = 120. Or, converting to decimal, 0.15 times x, or 0.15x = 120. Divide both sides by 0.15 to get x = 120/0.15 = 800.
