There is no way to guarantee your success at all, as any signs of abandoning your residency can lead to the actions taken by CBP, regardless how many times you have done.
In a simple way, CBP can do whatever they want to you, regardless you have a advanced approval, re-entry permit, or you have a pattern or not. In other words, they technically can hold your Permanent Resident Card (Green card) when you first try it.
Since there is no way to fight against the CBP, the only thing you can do is try to remain as many ties as possible in the United States and fulfill the obligations as a U.S. person. For example, paying income tax.
Since CBP does not have the authority to revoke your residency without a hearing. In that case, you will be given a chance to explain. The ties and income tax, although are not guaranteed success, they are proofs that you still want to remain as a U.S. person. In that case, the immigration judge will usually let you go to keep it.
Simply saying, no pain, no gain.
