Limewire is safe- if you know how to use it right.

    How to use Limewire safely.

    # Use Linux if you can.

Get up to date security software; this includes a firewall, anti-spyware and anti-virus from Download.com Recommended software includes Comodo Firewall Pro, Spybot Search & Destory, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and Avast! Anti-Virus free edition. All are free.

Go to www.limewire.com and download the free edition.

    Regularly scan for malware/spyware.

Do not allow sharing in settings.

Do not have the default saved file folders.

Under uploads, put all settings to 0 to not share your personal files.

    Other reasons:

    # No spyware or malware removers are foolproof.

    # If taking computer to be fixed, uninstall LimeWire.

    # Many files which are not audio or video could be viruses; check the size and description. Most songs are about 5 MB(+/-) and have extensions of ".mp3" or ".wma".

    # DO NOT download any file that ends in ".exe". These are applications and are most likely viruses. If you take the risk, download to a limited user account, scan with anti-virus and anti-spyware before even thinking about running the file. (Also "Right Click>Run as.." the limited user)

If you are paying for your music then use iTunes which is safe, easy, better quality songs and fairer to the music artists.

My main source is the record shop down the street. Downloading music for free is music/digital piracy, which is wrong.

Pandora http://www.pandora.com/: An internet radio site, free/legal

Internet Archive http://www.archive.org/browse.php?collection=etree... Free, lots of live music, though mostly not well known; extensive grateful dead recordings.

Jamendo http://www.jamendo.com/en/: Also free, much of it also has very open licenses for using in projects.

Inasmuch as this is the programming & design category, I'll tell you where I go to get music to use in projects.

He does require you put a credit to him in your project, but that's pretty much it.

    or go to

http://www.musopen.com for classical music that has been released into the public domain (you can use it however you want.)
