What Gender Are My Convict Cichlids?

I Have 5 Convicts In A 55 Gallon, Also Is This Enough Space For Them To Breed?

Also One Of Them Turned A Very Dark Black(Just The Stripes) Is This Normal?

Should I Add A Flower Pot For Breeding? Also How Many And How Should I Set Them Up and What Size?

Thanks For Your Time, Lilly

Well typical cichlid sexing is the fact that the male has an elongated dorsal fin that ends in a point. Female will be short in the dorsal and not as pointy. I had a quick look at the photos and #2 is definately a girl, you can tell female by the orange belly, males won't have this colouration. Hope that helps.

Here is a female in very nice breeding colours:

sounds like a Jack to me. I hate my black convict, i could pass on continuously with the justifications why. he is going back to the lfs the following day. besides, I had no theory jacks and convicts could desire to combination breed. I wager the offspring could have a horrific concepts-set and crappy colour lol. additionally, once you are going to reproduce, attempt to not combination breed fish. There are thank you to many hybrids being bought as *finished bloods* and disappointing new comers to the interest.

The males are the ones that turn dark black the females do not change color like that.

A 55gallon is to small to try and breed more than one pair they will just fight and kill each other babies non stop till the stress kills them.

I would put 15 to 20 small clay pots in there once you get a pair remove the rest of the fish.
