My group has made a great deal of money with charity auctions. I don't know the name of the company we used (their local anyway, so it wouldn't matter), but there are a whole bunch of companies that work like this: they LOAN you a bunch of stuff that is valuable at an auction (sports memorabilia, jewelry, paintings, etc) and then you organize your own benefit auction. Whatever you make above a given price, you keep. We made about 1,600 dollars in under 30 minutes this way.
Another cool thing is a printer cartridge recycling program. Most offices just throw their empty print cartridges away, even though they are worth a good amount of money if recycled. So you go around to local offices and schools and get permission to put out a "dump old print cartridges here for charity" sign. Once a month you go around and collect them, and then exchange them for 1 to 4 dollars a piece.
